Story Title: Life After Drink
By: Dennis M
It is with a great deal of sadness that I learned of the passing of one of the giants of the Indiana recovery community. Bill was able to use his sense of humor to show you that there was indeed “life after drink.”

I first met Bill at a conference in Brown County where he was running a booth for his employer and I was making audio tapes of the event.

I was still drinking and becoming more miserable every day. He had a model of the AA 10 questions, and glanced at it, thinking I better not look at it, because I knew what the answer would be.

During the course of that three day event Bill told me a little of his story, and modeled what sobriety could be like, beginning my process toward recovery.

More than 30 years later I marvel at what he helped me realize what I needed to do to begin the change to become the person I am today.

Rest in Peace, Bill Brooks. I will always remember your sunny disposition and service to the fellowship, formal and informal.

Kay and Family: So sorry for your loss. Bill will be remembered by so many and his legacy will go on. I remember when I first met him when I was employed at Koala Columbus ove 25 years ago. Bill always had so much energy and compassion. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I first met Bill in 2003, when the Marsh store at 146th and 37 was built. I enjoyed waiting on him as a customer. I remember he always asked me to take the lid off of his Advil. What a pleasure it was to help him. I’ve missed him coming in to the store, and I know his family will miss him now. He was a wonderful man.
